CBN warns against patronage of ‘wonder banks’ ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.mmm.net)

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday warned Nigerians against patronising what it called ‘wonder banks’, stating that their activities were not regulated by it.

The Head, Consumer Protection Department, CBN, Hajiya Kadija Kassim, stated this during a mentoring programme for students of the Government Secondary School, Suleja, Niger State.

The mentoring programme, which was held simultaneously in over 200 schools, was part of activities to mark the World Savings Day.

The apex bank’s warning is coming at a time when the huge unemployment situation in the country is making a lot of people to take interest in an online investment scheme tagged: ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.mmm.net)’.

The platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network,” with a monthly investment return of 30 per cent.

Kassim, while responding to a question asked by one of the students, described the scheme as fraudulent since it was not supported by any business model.

She said, “We have heard about the activities of MMM, but I want to warn you against it because they are wonder banks that are not regulated.

“Desist from their activities because they are fraudulent.”

She said the theme of this year’s World Savings Day, ‘Don’t save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving’, would assist in creating the needed awareness on the need to save.

She added, “The World Savings Day is a tradition created with the objective of stressing the importance of savings for modern economies and individuals alike.

“The primary objective is to increase awareness on financial literacy among various segments of the general public to sensitise them to the importance of saving, earning a livelihood, inculcating a savings habit, and generating employment and entrepreneurship for personal and national development.”

Everything You Need To Know About Sore Throat + Basic Home Treatment

Sore throats, alluded to by medicinal experts as "intense pharyngitis," can be brought on by various diverse infections and microbes. Around 70% of sore throats are brought on by infections, for example, frosty infections and other upper respiratory tract infections that taint the tissues around the throat. Sore throat is described by pain, distress, or scratchiness in the throat, frequently connected with pain while swallowing.

Causes of Sore Throat

Sore throats are usually caused by inflammation or infection of the pharynx (pharyngitis) or tonsils (tonsillitis), but may also include other areas surrounding the throat, such as the larynx (laryngitis).

Most sore throats have infectious disease origins, but some can result from breathing in dry, cold air through the mouth (for example, during the winter) or from having a foreign object stuck in the throat (for example, a fish or chicken bone).

Most sore throats are caused by viruses. Many occur at the beginning of a cold, when runny noses drain down the back of the throat and irritate it. Sore throats can also be caused by actual infection of the throat, such as strep throat, which is caused by bacteria (Streptococcus).

Basic Home treatments for Sore Throat

The good news is that most sore throats do not last long. However, a few home remedies may be useful for providing relief:
Drink warm liquids, such as honey or pap
Gargle with warm salt water (half teaspoon of salt in 1 cup of water)
Drink cold liquids or suck on Popsicle (for some sore throats)
Suck on hard candies rich in Vitamin C
Use a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier
Take over-the-counter pain medicine, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol)
Note: Since most sore throats are caused by viruses, they cannot be treated with antibiotics (which are specific for bacterial infections). In fact, antibiotics are not recommended unless the infection is definitively diagnosed as a bacterial infection, usually through a positive strep test or bacterial culture of the throat

JAMB Effectively Scraps Scratch Cards, Redesigns Website

Remember when JAMB earlier promised to scrap the use of scratch cards? Well, we can now confirm that the board has now officially effected the scrapping of use of scratch cards, and has further redesigned it's portal to cater for the new changes.

The change is really here! All previous scratch cards have now been invalidated. So if you previously had any scratch card, USED or UNUSED, you can no longer use them on the new portal. Even if you would like to re-print your result slip or JAMB admission letter, you will need repay to do that. If you initially saved the document somewhere, good for you. All Myschoolers, who requested this service through us however, are immune to this, as you can always log into your account here and re-print for free.

With the new system in place, candidates will now be required to have internet enabled ATM cards to be able to print their JAMB result slips, Admission letter or use any e-facility. Parents can also help their children make payments, BUT if you have more than one Child, you will need to choose which of them you would like to purchase a service for, as 1 account can only process services for 1 JAMB registration number. This simply means if you purchase JAMB result slip for JAMB registration number 12345678AB, you can purchase JAMB admission letter and other services for only 12345678AB. It is therefore advisable for candidates themselves to create a JAMB account using their emails and phone numbers, right from Registration (From 2017 UTME).

As for scratch card vendors, cafe operators, business centres, the new JAMB system has been designed to limit or totally prevent multiple requests from different JAMB registration numbers. You will therefore have to find alternatives or maybe register as an accredited JAMB centre. Whether or not this restriction will be lifted to allow candidates, who don't have bank account an option, only time will tell.

The portal seems to still be under construction, as we see some facilities are either not yet active or contain certain errors.

Some of the systems currently described above may change as the 2017 UTME registration draws closer, but until then, JAMB no longer uses scratch cards. Period!

Robbers attack Delta bank with dynamite, cart off N25m

UGHELLI—DARE-devil robbers, weekend, attacked an Ughelli branch of Union Bank, and carted away N25 million after blowing up the bank’s vault with dynamite.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, who were dressed in army camouflage, used dynamite and welding tools to break into the ATM inside the bank and the bank’s vault, where a bulk of the cash was kept. An auditor of the bank, who was sent from the Benin regional office for the regular auditing of the bank’s branch, estimated that about N25 million was stolen from the bank. Confirming the incident yesterday, a staff of the bank, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the bank’s manager and some senior staff were arrested and taken to Asaba for questioning in connection with the incident. Giving details of the incident, the staff said: “The security guards were tied up while the operation lasted. “Though they spared the ATM outside the bank premises, they used dynamite to blow up the ATM inside the bank and drilled their way through into the bank’s vault.”

COAS orders investigation into killing of bride’s mother in Delta

Six months after she was hacked down by a soldier from 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effurun, Delta State, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has ordered investigation into the extrajudicial killing of Mrs Alice Akparobi.

The investigation, according to a letter signed from the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Force, Abuja and signed by Commander K.C. Okoro, is to be carried out by the Army Special Investigation Bureau.

Akparobi, a judiciary staff in her early 50s, Metro gathered, was on her way to her eldest daughter’s house to dress up for her last daughter’s wedding on the morning of Saturday, April 30, when the tricycle she boarded was stopped.

It was learnt that she was subsequently stabbed to death by one of the soldiers manning a roadblock at Jakpa junction from the back of the commercial tricycle.

The soldiers, who were allegedly said to have been newly deployed from the North to the state at the time of the incident, accused the tricycle driver of violating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise that was being observed that day.

The COAS, in the directive, also ordered the investigation into the shooting of one Mr  Shedrack Saduwa, aged 18.

Saduwa, a carpenter, was hit in the abdomen while returning from work and was admitted at the Bryant Hospital for three months for multiple gun injuries before he was discharged as an outpatient.

The two incidents had prompted the law firm of IKIMI OGHENEJABOR & CO., located in Udu, Udu Local Government Area to petition the National Human Rights Commission to order an investigation into the incidents.

Metro gathered that the authorities of 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army had earlier visited the family of Mrs Akparobi to commiserate with members who rejected some money they were allegedly given for the burial of the deceased.

Coordinator of the Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged (Centrep), Oghenejabor Ikimi, whose counsel for the two cases called on the COAS to ensure a thorough investigation into the incidents, with a view to bringing the trigger-happy soldiers to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

Absence of RECs in 29 states paralyses INEC offices

There is anxiety among Nigerians and belatedly within the Senate that the unsteady steps of  Independent National Electoral, INEC, as it wades through several inconclusive elections until the Edo relief, may be more widespread during the 2019 general elections. Although the fear was abated by the Edo election, soon after the poll, the criticisms, which trailed the conduct of the election by observers,  further worsened the anxiety that 2019 may be a   chaotic election year for Nigeria. The growing fear is heightened by the failure or inability of  government,17 months into office, to fill the huge  vacancies  in  INEC offices across the 36 states, despite the constitutional provision that each state must have a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). The continuing human resources denial of INEC has exposed the Commission to further gaps in peripheral planning with 29 states currently without   Resident Electoral Commissioners. Most affected by this worrisome state of affairs in INEC are the North-West   with seven states but no single commissioner in the entire zone, the North-East (2), South- West (1) North-Central (1), South-East (1) and South-South (4). INEC boss, Mahmood Yakubu The situation is even more worrisome considering that among the eight RECs on ground, five are due for retirement in February 2017 while the rest  are to retire latest  July of that same year. This is the level of degeneration occasioned by the absence of the constitutionally stipulated personnel provided for, but has not been fulfilled by President Muhammadu Buhari, precipitating a crisis of ill preparation for 2019 in INEC that Nigerians and the Senate just belatedly decried, even though civil society groups and various editorials have been written on the dangers of not constituting the INEC both at the state and at the level of its Board. These fears were heightened after the conclusion of the Edo election because it was marred by several scheduling problems, notwithstanding that INEC was evidently ready for the exercise. Before the election was finally held on Wednesday September 28, it had been postponed due to, principally, concerns expressed by security agencies. Other scheduling difficulties, which the Commission experienced before the election, were the clashes between its timetable and WAEC examinations on the one hand, as well as with the ceremonies of the coronation of the Oba of Benin on the other hand. These issues exposed the difficulties that may arise in local election contests which cannot be effectively addressed by central planning from INEC headquarters in Abuja. Even appointment of the remaining six members for the central management board of INEC is still not done, unlike in previous years when all such pending appointments are made timeously. Meanwhile,  the Senate that has direct supervision over INEC is just raising fears about the unusual state of affairs now. Many Nigerians are concerned that, if the Presidency has been unable to focus on electoral matters and the urgencies therein, should that also be the case with the legislature where many long serving legislators are present? The unprecedented delays to properly constitute INEC’s full board and appointment of states Resident Commissioners, against constitutional prescriptions, clearly imply that the larger population of election managers, who will drive the implementation of the 2019 elections, would spend less than half of the Buhari  administrative tenure in the preparations for the elections. The importance of effectively constituting full election management body before implementation of electoral projects is the fact that, those who shall steer the implementation of election projects should be part of the strategic and operational planning from the outset. It is, therefore, difficult to fathom how the operational planning for 2019 will be realistic, given that the principal drivers, in most states of the election, will be learners of the process midway into the planning of the next election cycle that ought to have commenced immediately after the 2015 elections. This is the standard expected of all election management bodies,   an important reason  the point is often made that to be effective, election planning must involve people who are at the core of   implementing the electoral activities. SENATE ALOOFNESS TO PARALYSIS OF INEC The failure of the executive arm of government, with respect to timely constitution of INEC and its full complement of steering commissioners, both at the national and   especially at state levels, where   elections actually take place, is a direct failure and poor oversight of   the National Assembly. The failings of the National Assembly to ensure that the executive strictly follows constitutional stipulates regarding INEC have come as a shock to observers of the trend of legislative elections in Nigeria.   The aloofness of the legislature is further accentuated by the disinterest with which the legislators have responded to the slow and unpredictable way government has handled or treated an important institution such as INEC, a Commission that its failing or success is at the root of political stability of the country. Lack of vigilance of the Nigerian legislators over the unoccupied offices of INEC is evidenced by the fact it was not until lawyers , civil society and election monitoring organizations pointed out the dangers of not constituting the full board of INEC that it became a serious matter of discussion within government and legislative circles and nothing so far has concretely happened that meet the expectations of Nigerians. Some legislators, chiefly, Senator Enyinnaya  Abaribe, of Abia-South,  expressed concern over the dangers of the   executive not constituting INEC fully might pose to the 2019 elections  at a time Nigerians  began to feel that there is a Senate. While many have lost hope in the House of Representatives that should have been the champion of matters like this,  members of the lower chamber have said nothing about the failure   or inability of the executive to fill the vacancies in INEC or maybe they are still focusing on budget padding matters. As the attention of the nation and keen election observers now turn to Ondo State, where inter-party squabbles are threatening the peaceful conduct of the November 26 governorship election, with an   aspirant whose candidacy is mired in controversy accusing INEC officials of graft, anxiety is deepening that further delays in assisting the Commission to constitute its full complement of steering managers, namely, national and states electoral Commissioners, will certainly lead to election crisis   in 2019, given that those that would be appointed would be at different stages or level of knowledge or understanding of the task of election management, a situation that may imperil the burgeoning democratic project in Nigeria, that is already quaking from widespread calls for a constitutional restructuring of the governance modes of the country to properly reflect a federal rather than a unitary state.

Health benefits of onions

ONIONS, like garlic, are members of the Allium family and both are rich in sulphur-containing compounds that are responsible for their pungent odours and for many of their health-promoting effects.

A wide variety of allyl sulphides are found in onion, including the four major diallyl sulphides: DMS (diallyl monosulphide), DDS (diallyl disulphide), DTS (diallyl trisulphide), and DTTS (diallyl tetrasulphide).

Also present are a wide variety of sulphoxides, including (+) S-methyl-L-cysteine sulphoxide (MCSO), (+)-S-(1-propenyl)-L-cysteine sulphoxide (PRENCSO), S-methyl-l-cysteine sulphoxide, S-propyl-l-cysteine sulphoxide, and S-propenyl-l-cysteine sulphoxide. Onions are an outstanding source of polyphenols, including the flavonoid polyphenols. Within this flavonoid category, onions are a standout source of quercetin.

Cardiovascular benefits

In animal studies, there is evidence that onion’s sulphur compounds may work in an anti-clotting capacity and help prevent the unwanted clumping together of blood platelet cells. There is also evidence showing that sulphur compounds in onion can lower blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, and also improve cell membrane function in red blood cells.

In human studies, most of the cardiovascular benefits have been demonstrated in the form of overall diet. Multiple studies show onion to be a food that provides protection for the heart and blood vessels when consumed in a diet that is rich in other vegetables and fruits — especially flavonoid-containing vegetables and fruits. The benefits of onion in this overall dietary context extend to prevention of heart attack. In virtually all of these diet-based studies, participants with the greatest intake of vegetables (including onions) gain the most protection.

Support for bone and connective tissue

Human studies have shown that onion can help increase bone density and may be of special benefit to women of menopausal age who are experiencing loss of bone density. In addition, there is evidence that women who have passed the age of menopause may be able to lower their risk of hip fracture through frequent consumption of onions. “Frequent” in this context means onion consumption on a daily basis!

Anti-inflammatory benefits

While onion is not as well researched as garlic in terms of specific inflammatory health problems like rheumatoid arthritis or allergic airway inflammation, this allium vegetable has nevertheless been shown to provide important anti-inflammatory benefits. Onionin A — a unique sulphur molecule in onion that is found in the bulb portion of the plant — has been shown to inhibit the activity of macrophages, specialised white blood cells that play a key role in our body’s immune defense system and one of their defense activities involves the triggering of large-scale inflammatory responses. While macrophage activity is typically a good thing, inhibition of their activity can sometimes be critical in getting chronic unwanted inflammation under control.

Cancer protection

Onion has repeatedly been shown to lower risk of several cancers, even when we consume it in only moderate amounts. “Moderate” generally means one to two times per week, even though in some studies, it has been used to mean up to five to six times per week. Colorectal cancer, laryngeal cancer, and ovarian cancer are the cancer types for which risk is reduced along with moderate amounts of dietary onion. For other cancer types, however, moderate intake of onion has not been enough to show significant risk reduction. For these cancer types — including esophageal cancer and cancers of the mouth — daily intake of onion is required before research results show significant risk reduction.

Other health benefits

In animal studies, onions have shown potential for improvement of blood sugar balance, though it is not yet clear about the carry over of these benefits for humans who are seeking better blood sugar balance from their diet. Most of the animal studies have been conducted on rats and most have used onion juice or onion extract as the form of onion tested. Future research is needed to clarify onion’s potential for helping lower blood sugar and improving blood sugar control, especially in persons with blood sugar problems.

While not as well researched as garlic in terms of antibacterial benefits, onion has nevertheless been shown to help prevent bacterial infection.

Along with its sulphur-containing compounds, the flavonoid quercetin contained in onion helps provide these antibacterial benefits. We’ve seen studies showing antibacterial activity of onion in relationship to the bacteria Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus. (These bacteria are commonly involved in the production of tooth cavities).

Antibacterial benefits have also been shown in the area of gum (periodontal) disease bacteria, including Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia. Interestingly, in one study, fresh, chopped, uncooked onion had antibacterial effects on these potentially unwanted gum bacteria, but non-fresh, uncooked onion (raw onion that was chopped and then left to sit for two days at room temperature) did not demonstrate these same antibacterial properties nor did fresh onion that was grated and then steamed for 10 minutes.

Ondo: Mimiko’s allies open talks with APC

Governor-Mimiko-300x242

Rattled by court pronouncement which stripped their anointed candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 26 governorship election, allies of  Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko are already opening discussions with certain leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was even as the Court of Appeal will tomorrow sit on the appeal filed by Eyitayo Jegede whose name as the PDP standard bearer for the governorship election was removed by  the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and substituted with Jimoh Ibrahim.

The former Attorney General of Ondo State had emerged as the party’s candidate at the primary organised  by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction while Ibrahim picked the ticket at a parallel primary organised  by the Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff leadership held in Ibadan, oyo State.

The electoral body had last Thursday deleted Jegede’s name from its list of eligible candidates for the election fixed for November  26, in compliance with the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

While ruling on an application filed by the factional chairman and secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Prince Biyi Poroye and Ademola A. Genty,  Abang ordered INEC to “accept and process for the purpose of its functions and activities in the organisation and conduct of the Ondo State governorship election only the nomination of Ibrahim, who emerged from the primary election conducted by the 1st and 2nd plaintiffs/applicants, as candidate of the second defendant (PDP) in the Ondo governorship election.”

He also ordered INEC to “reject and jettison any other nomination submitted to it by any other person(s) apart from the first and second plaintiffs/applicants, indicating that no other person, apart from Ibrahim, is the candidate of the 2nd defendant for the governorship election.”

A source revealed to Daily Sun that Mimiko is contemplating a deal that would ensure that he pulled the string to ensure victory for the APC candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, while his role would ultimately be acknowledged and rewarded by leadership of the APC.

The source, who revealed that Mimiko’s meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari was actually facilitated by a former South-West governor and minister in Buhari’s cabinet, further disclosed that in the event that Jegede could not retrieve the ticket at the Court of Appeal, the outgoing governor would ask his  supporters to line behind Akeredolu, the APC candidate.

But Governor Mimiko has since denied the purported deal with APC. Mimiko, who spoke with Daily Sun through his media aide, Eni Akinsola, said there was no reason for him to dump Jegede for candidate of a rival party, Akeredolu.

Meanwhile, a gale of defection has hit the state chapter of the party. Daily Sun gathered that certain chieftains of the party who have decided to dump the party would be received by the national leadership of the APC, billed to storm Akure on Thursday, for the official flag off of the campaign.

Among those expected to defect are former governorship aspirant and former director general of the National Sports Commission,  Gbenga Elegbeleye; former member of the state House of Assembly,  Thompson Otito Atikase and a former lawmaker, Afolabi Iwalewa.

Elegbeleye and Atikase in separate telephone interviews confirmed the development. Atikase said he was not comfortable with the development in the PDP and accused the outgoing state governor of running the party aground.

‘’I am a practical politician, I don’t deceive myself. Mimiko has destroyed this party because of Jegede and there is no way we can win the election. So, there is no point staying back. I am going to declare officially for APC on Thursday,” he said.

In a related development, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has condemned the publication of Ibrahim’s name as the governorship candida.

In a statement signed jointly by the group’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA faulted the decision of INEC regarding the rightful standard bearer and for electing to accept the judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja, over the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt which did not recognise the Amodu Sheriff-led faction of the PDP which produced Mr. Ibrahim as its governorship candidate in Ondo.

HURIWA said INEC’s action presented the current hierarchy of the commission as that which easily appears to take instructions from outside of its perimeters which it says constitutionally enjoys independence in decision making.

CBN to blacklist fraudulent bank customers

240114N.CBN-Logo--300x257

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is working on a framework that will, before year-end, enable it to blacklist or watch-list fraudulent bank customers across the country’s banking space.
CBN Director, Banking and Payment ’Dipo Fatokun broke the news at the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) October meeting in Lagos at the weekend.
He said the framework, when unveiled, would give the regulator the legal backing to use the Bank Verification (BVN) platform to identify, watch-list and blacklist fraudulent account holders in all the 22 banks and Other Financial Institutions (OFIS).
According to him, the framework, which is at the final stage of its approval, would soon be sent to the Committee of Governors of the Central Bank for examination and exposure to the banking industry.
“It is a policy issue and therefore, has to go to the Committee of Governors of the Central Bank, which will look at it and do an industry exposure. These will be completed, hopefully, before the end of the year,” he assured.
Data from the CBN showed that although e-fraud rate in terms of value dropped by 63 per cent last year, after the BVN introduction and improved collaboration among banks via the fraud desks, the total fraud volume rose significantly by 683 per cent within the year compared to 2014 figures.
Also, the country experienced a total of 3,500 cyber-attacks with 70 per cent success rate and loss of $450 million within the last one year mainly through cross channel fraud, data theft, e-mail spooling, phishing, shoulder surfing and underground websites.
Fatokun explained that one common thing about electronic fraud was that when money is moved fraudulently from one account to another, it could easily be traced.
“And so, identifying the owner of that fraudulent bank account using the BVN, will not only be able to identify him or her in the bank he has moved the money to, we also identify him in all the banks where he has accounts.
“And when legal impediments are overcome, such people could be blacklisted, or watch-listed in the banking system. That will also assist us to a great deal, in curbing the menace of fraudsters,” he said.
The CBN director, who spoke on the theme: “Exploring new protective measures against social engineering vulnerabilities”, said social engineering has common phenomenon in cybercrime attacks in Nigeria.
“Almost on a daily basis, a plethora of messages are sent by these criminals with the express intent to con the unsuspecting recipient using techniques that appeal to vanity, greed or authority. It is, therefore, important that we look critically at measures that will protect the industry as a whole from the menace of social engineering attacks.
“It is often said that people, processes and technology are the tripod on which cybersecurity lies, with discussion ever hovering on which is the weakest link. I must however submit that like what is required in building any chain, we must prepare to forge each link with the same degree of heat – in other words, no link must be too important or less significant in the pursuit of payments security.”
On the implications of such blacklisting on customers, he explained that for commercial banks, opening an account or having a bank account itself is a contract.
“It is a contract between a willing customer and a willing bank. So, if a bank notices that a particular customer is fraudulent, or is a criminal, the bank has the right to get out of the contract. And another implication is that if an account is watch-listed, when the framework is finally approved, if there is a credit into that account and every other person is having his credit within two to three minutes, because the account has been watch-listed based on past activities, credit into such account may be withheld for a longer period while investigations are carried on to actually confirm that it is a genuine transfer,” he stated.
These steps, Fatokun said, would assist the bank, because being able to identify, apprehend and prosecute would go a long way in reducing the problem of electronic fraud.
On prosecution and apprehension, he said the NeFF is working with the police to create a dedicated electronic payment and card crime unit, which when operational, would help reduce further, electronic fraud.
He said the operationalisation of a dedicated e-Payment and Card Crime Unit in the Nigeria Police will enable a greater effort in NeFF’s quest to successfully investigate and bring to book through effective and efficient prosecution of cyber-criminals.

Jose Mourinho facing stadium ban: FA consider throwing the book at Manchester United boss

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

JOSE MOURINHO is facing a stadium ban for the second time in two seasons as the FA consider throwing the book at the controversial Manchester United boss.

And due to his past record the ban could be for two games this time – meaning Mourinho would be told to stay away from United’s away trip to Swansea on Sunday and the home game with Arsenal on November 19.

Mourinho was involved in the latest of a long series of bust-ups with referees when he was sent to the stands by referee Mark Clattenburg during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley.

The United manager was furious at Clattenburg’s refusal to give a penalty shortly before half-time, believing Burnley left-back Jon Flanagan had tripped Matteo Darmian inside the area.

Mourinho is already facing an improper conduct charge for comments made about referee Anthony Taylor before the goalless draw at Liverpool two weeks ago.

Now FA bosses must decide whether the latest controversy should bring a repeat of the stadium ban he was handed while at Chelsea last season.

Mourinho had to watch Chelsea’s defeat at Stoke last November from the team hotel, having been barred from attending the match after confronting referee Jon Moss during a game at West Ham.

An independent commission opted for that sanction because they felt the £40,000 fine they also handed out was not enough of a deterrent.

He narrowly escaped another stadium ban for claiming referees were afraid to award Chelsea penalties following last October’s home defeat by Southampton.

For that offence, Mourinho was given a separate ban – but the punishment was suspended for 12 months.

He had only just passed the end of that period when he was charged for his recent comments about Taylor, escaping a second automatic stadium ban by just eight days.

But with the FA determined to bring him into line then Mourinho could still be facing a two-game shut-out.

He has until 6pm today to respond to the charge relating to his comments on Taylor.

By then, the FA will have had time to digest Clattenburg’s report and decide on a second misconduct charge.

Mourinho’s team, who have failed to score in their last three Premier League games, are eight points behind leaders Manchester City.

They have slumped to eighth place after winning just one of their last seven league games, and have just 15 points from their opening 10 matches.

Only once in Premier League history have they chalked up fewer points by this stage of the season – under Louis van Gaal two years ago.

5 Tips For Older Job Seekers Facing Discrimination

“I’m 58 years old, out of work… and I’m not ready or financially able to retire. My age is really making it difficult to find a job,” laments a job hunter.

Sound familiar?

As an older applicant, you can’t eliminate age discrimination. But you can learn what lies behind it and take steps to differentiate yourself from stereotypes. By doing so, you increase your chances of receiving serious consideration. Here’s how:

1. There is a natural inclination to believe that older workers aren’t up-to-date with their skill sets. Tip: Don’t be stuck in the past, and keep up-to-date with all things in your field. Show off recent training courses, certifications, or other credentials. If you aren’t up to speed in your area of expertise, understand that employer rejection may be about your knowledge and skill sets, not your physical age. You can’t go back to being 28, but you can continue to learn no matter how old you are. Also, be sure to delete references to outdated resources like DOS and WordPerfect 5.0 from your resume.

2. Younger managers may feel awkward hiring people who are about as old as their parents. Tip: Be aware of the unstated messages you convey. Imagine a 30-something hiring manager reading your resume that begins, “Twenty-eight years of experience doing X.” You may intend to show longstanding experience and expertise. But the resume reader may imagine you saying, like a parent might: “I’ve been doing this since you were in diapers.” If you don’t want to call attention to your age, don’t lead with age-related language. Instead, start with something like: “In my most recent role at Widget Company, I provided value by doing A, B, and C.”

3. Hiring authorities fear that older workers are slowing down. Tip: Remain active, and show it. A Personal Interest resume section that references significant physical activity displays that you remain energetic and in shape. Community volunteerism and participation is another way to display that you do more than just what’s expected.

4. Resume readers focus on what you have done for the last eight to 12 years. Tip: Remember that the purpose of a resume is to demonstrate your skills and relevant work experience. You don’t need to list every job going back to the lemonade stand that you put in front of your house when you were age 5. It is perfectly reasonable to limit your resume to positions dating back 10 to 15 years, provided that you include this line: “Details of prior professional experience available upon request.” This way, you acknowledge a longer history honestly, but recognize that you aren’t relying on things you did early in your career to land a job today.

5. Get rid of your functional resume that focuses on skills rather than providing a chronological description of your professional path. Employers have figured out that older workers use them to obscure their age. Resume readers legitimately need to learn what you did quickly, along with where and when you did it. When you don’t provide dates, you wave a red flag and invite the reader to conclude that you are both evasive and old. Provide the facts in an easy-to-follow format, which will lead to the inevitable conclusion: “This person is the answer to our needs.”

Remember: Reality is what it is. Nonetheless, you do have the power to fashion your image as an energetic, with-it person. And when you do, you level the playing field between yourself and your younger competition.

BREAKING | Ghanaian President Confers Ghana’s Highest Honour On Adenuga

Africa’s foremost businessman and multi-billionaire investor, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr, was on Saturday conferred with Ghana’s highest civil award, the Companion of the Star of Ghana (CSG), SIGNAL can report.

Ghanaian President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, conferred the award on the Globacom Chairman on Saturday, October 29, at the International Conference Centre, Accra, Ghana.

President Mahama said Dr Adenuga was being honoured in recognition of his “unique and outstanding contribution to business enterprise both in Ghana and the continent of Africa at large.”

“Through your creative business exertions, you have touched many lives in Ghana. You have provided employment for our teeming youth, artists, footballers and many more. I am particularly proud of you. This award is our way of saying a simple Thank You,” the President stated.

The citation on Dr Adenuga commended his “transformational achievements in the telecommunications industry”, chief of which was the laying of the Glo 1 optic fibre cable linking several African countries including Ghana with Europe and America.

President Mahama equally commended Dr Adenuga’s contribution to telecommunications in Ghana since Glo Mobile’s launch and lauded the huge investment in the project.

The President noted that Dr Adenuga’s investment decisions and his persistent and affirmative support for sports have earned him honours all over Africa. He noted that this was one of the strong reasons that recommended Dr Adenuga for Ghana’s highest civilian honour.

Dr Adenuga, in his acceptance remarks, noted that President Mahama’s “recognition and support of my modest contributions to the development of Ghana’s economy have come as a great source of pride and encouragement to me. This is more so as it is coming from Your Excellency, whose sterling qualities of leadership I admire greatly”.

Dr. Adenuga’s Glo Mobile is a leading telecommunication services provider in Ghana. Besides providing direct and indirect employment opportunities to thousands of Ghanaians, Glo Mobile Ghana has, since launch in 2012, been the pacesetter in innovation, excellent service delivery and consumer loyalty reward in the country’s telecom market, particularly in the data segment.

The company's international submarine cable, Glo 1, which landed in Accra in 2009 also opened up a whole vista of unprecedented opportunities for businesses, government institutions and individuals in the country by giving them much better access to more affordable broadband.

Glo Mobile also played a major role in developing Ghanaian football through the sponsorship of the country’s national teams, the domestic football league and the football supporters’ club. The sponsorship lasted for several years.

Back in Nigeria, Dr. Adenuga was in 2012 conferred with the award of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) by the Federal Government. GCON is the highest honour for a civilian who is not in government in the country.

The Federal Government of Nigeria said Dr Adenuga was honoured for his immense contribution to the socio-economic development of Nigeria and the West African sub-region. “He worked very hard to establish Globacom which today provides hundreds of thousands of jobs in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic. His company has also established footprints in Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and The Gambia,” the then President, Goodluck Jonathan had said.

More trouble as Ex-Miss Finland accuses Trump, says ‘he really grabbed my butt’

Ninni Laaksonen, Ex Miss Finland
      Ninni Laaksonen, Ex Miss Finland

A former Miss Finland has accused U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump of groping her in 2006 when she was representing the country in the Miss Universe beauty contest. Ninni Laaksonen told the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper that the Republican presidential nominee had grabbed her behind before she appeared on a television show in New York with other contestants.

“He really grabbed my butt. I don’t think anybody saw it but I flinched and thought: ‘What is happening?’,” Laaksonen was quoted as saying in the newspaper. The accusation follows a stream of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Trump from other women in the United States which have put pressure on his campaign as he trails in opinion polls ahead of the Nov. 8 election. Trump has denied the accusations. Laaksonen could not be reached for comment on Friday. Recently, Jessica Drake, an adult film star and director, became the 11th woman to accuse Trump of inappropriate sexual behaviour. She also claimed that she was offered  $10,000 for Mr Trump to come to her room, which she declined. She was unable to recall whether it was Mr Trump or a staff member calling on his behalf who proposed the alleged payment to her. Mr Trump’s campaign dismissed her allegations as “totally false and ridiculous”, adding “Mr Trump does not know this person, does not remember this person and would have no interest in ever knowing her.” Accompanied by her lawyer Gloria Allred, Ms Drake said the alleged encounter took place at a golf tournament at Lake Tahoe in 2006.

Davido reacts to Kaffy’s allegations of maltreating dancers

Davido on stage

Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) henchman, David Adeleke, aka ‘Davido’, has finally responded to Kaffy’s recent social media outburst accusing him of firing her dancers on stage at the 3-Thrones concert which recently held at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos.

Reacting to Kaffy’s outburst and her use of profane and unprintable words in describing him, the Skelewu hit-maker said he has nothing against the foremost choreographer and fitness trainer, Kaffy.

According to him, he was shocked to have seen Kaffy’s 1-miniute video on Instagram, hurling abuses at him for something he is completely innocent of. Meanwhile, Kaffy has since apologised for her uncultured outburst, but not until the dance crew leader, Dance Na The Main Thing (DMNT), Michael Igbelabo, debunked Kaffy’s allegations, saying Davido never fired them or had any altercation with them. He later suggested that Davido may have possibly offended Kaffy before the 3-Thrones concert, which made her rain such profane words on him.

Winners Pastors fight dirty over N16.5m church land commission in Lagos

Three Pastors of the Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel at Isheri Olofin area  of Lagos state are engrossed in serious fight over the sharing of N16.5m realized from the purchase of some parcel of land and property by the church in Lagos.

The fight which was said to have started from the church premises has now moved to the Lagos court where the parties are seeking  justice. The three pastors in the matter are Deacon Dolire Oluwaniyi who is also an estate agent on the one hand and two other Pastors, Edwin Iky and Peter O. Odama on the other hand. The last two acted on behalf of the church over the purchase of the property. In the suit before Magistrate’s court sitting in Ogba, with suit number, MIK/4174/16, Deacon Oluwaniyi stated that the two pastors cheated him after they collected N140m from their General Overseer, Bishop David Oyedapo and paid N130m to the owner of the property. Apart from that, Deacon Oluwaniyi also stated that as the agent who linked the church to the owner of the property, he was entitled to N6.5 million commission which was also paid by the church but was shared between the two pastors and he was not given a dime. Following the alleged scam, the claimant dragged the church to the court seeking an order that he should be paid his commission as a registered agent with his company’s name, Bedek properties that facilitated the transaction. In his affidavit in support of the claim, the claimant stated that his company wrote to the church introducing the properties which contain two big church halls and a story building on one acre of land located at Iyana Odo, along Igando road in Sheri Olofin area. He stated that he was contacted through the pastors and he linked the church to the owner of the property, one Bishop Emmanuel Omobajesu. The claimant said after the payment for the property  he demanded for his commission and the two pastors asked him to bear it as seed to the church where as they had already collected the money from the church. The claimant also stated that the pastors involved in the transaction are not honest and sincere as they both ate with both hands and thereby soiled their hands in the transaction. In response, the defendant under the registered trustee of the church stated that the claimant was not appointed as its agent, legal representative  nor hold any partnership and did not authorise the claimant to act on behalf of the defendant. It also stated that the claimant have no locus standi to sue the defendant as regard  the property and demanding N6.5m agency commission. The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O Osibajo has adjourned the matter till 23 November, 2016, to deliver rulings on the motions filed by the parties.

5 Solid Reasons Why You Didn't Hear Back From The Interviewers/recruiters

From the moment you step out of the interview room, your eagerness and anxiety increases. You simply want to know the next step -to hear back from the Interviewers. You become more glued to your phone so as not to miss any call and your email is always the first thing you check in the morning and before going to bed. Most frustrating is the fact that you knew you ought to ask some questions in a job interview which you rightly did.
Funny enough, unless you have an inside connection in the company, you probably might never know why you were never contacted but for those who didn’t, here are five solid reasons on why you never heard back from the
Interviewers/recruiters.

Mistakes in your Resume: There is no greater turn-off to an interviewer than a mistake-riddled CV/resume. No employer wants to place responsibility into the hands of an employee who can’t even write a document about themselves without mistakes. No doubt, your CV must first create an impression to the recruiter before you are even called up for an interview. If you know pointing to details is one of your weak points, it’s advisable to proof-read it well
before the final submission or you get someone to do it for
you.
The Interviewers/Recruiters Haven’t Made Up Their Minds: Getting back to potential employees can be a daunting task to recruiters/interviews especially when all the candidates for the post all seemed to be qualified. When this is the case, be sure that the recruiters are still in doubt about the best person for the job.
3. You are simply not Qualified: Long term job search can force you to churn out sporadic CVs and resumes to positions you are not qualified for. Doing this won’t help you at all rather you can channel your energy on things you can be doing if you are unemployed

4. Poor Interview Skills: Your CV/Resume is an award-winning one. And so what? (Paying a professional copy writer to write or edit it for you is as simple as ABC. I am not saying it’s wrong. I encourage it as long as it will land you an interview). Know this, the words on the paper is not enough to land you the job the words coming out of your mouth are riddled with grammatical blunders While slang in an interview is a total no-no, try as much as possible to avoid the use of ” yeah”, ” eh eh em¦¦¦. (you would simply be perceived as not being confident and tenable to lying). This alone is enough to turn your
Interviewer(s) off and make the whole interview process
boring.

5. Your Social Media Speaks Bad About You: This might be
Strange to you. Recruiters are simply adopting ”ridiculous” means daily to disqualify applicants especially when there are two qualified candidates for a single post. A background check on your social media profile might be all the employer need to decide hiring you or not. From your LinkedIn, Facebook account to Twitter, always maintain some levels of professionalism. Using a female picture as your Display Picture when you are a male is darm unprofessional as a job seekers. You probably don’t know who is watching.

BONUS

6. Your Appearance is off the Hook: While a first impression goes a long way in endearing you to your potential employer(s) the truth remains that recruiters are continuously judging a book by its cover daily. Even though we castigate recruiters who do not do enough to see the potentials of those they are interviewing due to their shady appearance, as an applicant, try as much as possible to keep in touch with the fashion trends of your day. An eighteenth century dressing mode in this age is enough to shut the door against you.

Over to You
Off course there are so many other reasons that are not listed here, we will appreciate you sharing it with us through the comment box below.
Be Social
Reading is good but sharing is better. Someone (who you might even know) somewhere need these tips right now.
This is one of the ways you can encourage us to improve better.

2 men take away self-confessed wizard, say it’s family affair

Fuel finished in my ‘private jet.’

Sapele—TWO men, who claimed to be members of the family of the self-confessed wizard that ‘crashed his plantain leaf private jet’ into Ajogodo River, Sapele, Delta State, when the fuel finished, took him away, yesterday.
It will be recalled that the man discovered in the river, Wednesday, claimed to have been flying in what he called “Plantain Leaf” in the physical realm, but was “expensive private jet” in the coven, which crashed into Ajogodo River after the fuel finished.

According to him, “I was flying in what is known in the physical realm as plantain leaf. But it is actually my expensive private jet in the coven realm. It crashed me into this bridge, when the fuel in it finished. “My members will be here tonight to refuel it for me to continue my journey to the UK. I have to be in the UK to watch the UK football season, because there is economic recession, unemployment and inflation in Nigeria.” However, two “family” members of the self-confessed wizard, came yesterday and pleaded with restive residents, who wanted to set him ablaze moments before their arrival, saying “we are from Idjerhe (Jesse) in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State. “He is our brother. He is a driver by trade and plies daily his taxi along the Benin/Sapele dual carriage way. He lives in Benin mostly. “We heard about the incident through the news making the round. We came here to confirm it and it is true. Please we want you people to release him for us to take him home, because he now appears very weak.” The family members, in their 60s, who refused to disclose their names, also did not state the man’s marital status, declaring “this is our private family affair. We are not going to tell you people any more information about our brother.” They zoomed off with him in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry car without number plates, at about 10a.m., yesterday. As they were leaving, the self-confessed wizard was heard saying, “I was not alone on the journey. There were others with their private jets, but luck ran against me when my fuel finished. The others are in UK now.”

How Obanikoro, Others Airlifted N1.2bn Cash For Fayose – Bank Official

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday called its first prosecution witness before a Federal High Court in Abuja in the trial of an aide of Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Mr. Abiodun Agbele, who is being prosecuted for money laundering charges.

‎The first prosecution witness, Oluseye Alade, who is an official of Zenith Bank Plc, gave a breakdown of how the sum of N1.2bn allegedly airlifted to Akure by a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro on June 17, 2016, was distributed by Agbele.

He did not disclose where the aircraft flew from.

But he said he was informed by a colleague of his in Ibadan to wait for the arrival of the aircraft.

The EFCC had on August 3, 2016 aarraigned Agbele before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High on 11 counts of money laundering involving about N4,685,723,000,000.

The money was allegedly taken by former National Security Adviser from the account of the office of the NSA domicile in the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The prosecution alleged that on June 17, 2014, Agbele, Obanikoro and other suspects (said to be at large), took N1,219,000,000 from the total N4,685,723,000,000, when they “reasonably ought to have known” that the money was part of proceeds of Dasuki’s unlawful activity.”

Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Wahab Shittu, the witness who is the Branch Head of the Zenith Bank in Akure gave details of how the N1.2bn was disbursed on the instruction of Agbele.

He said the money was airlifted to Akure by Obanikoro and others in two batches.
He said the money was moved from the airport to the bank by a bullion van on the two occasions of the arrival of the aircraft.”

He said, “I first met Agbele on June 17, 2014. On that day, my zonal head, Abiodun Oshode, informed me that he recieved a message from Lawrence Akande, the Zonal Head of Oyo State Branch of Zenith Bank that a customer will be coming to the bank from the airport with cash. He said that I should arrange for our bullion van to be taken to the airport to convey the cash when it arrives.

“After about an hour, Oshode walked to me that the customer is in the bank and I followed him to his office where he introduced Mr. Abiodun Agbele to me as the customer.

“Agbele told me that they had security details and that I should not bother about policemen since they had enough. That was how I, my Zonal Head, the bullion van driver, Agbele and his team drove to the airport.

“When we got to the airport, we waited for some minutes before the aircraft arrived. When the aircraft offloaded its passengers, one of them appeared to me to be Senator Musliu Obanikoro and the other one appeared to be his ADC, Adewale.

“Agbele walked up to them and had a discussion with them. Thereafter, he signaled me to bring the van. Bags loaded with cash were evacuated into the van and Obanikoro’s ADC, I and Agbele drove back to the bank.

“When we got to the bank, we bundle-counted the cash and it was N724,500,000. Agbele told us that more money was still coming and then, Obanikoro’s ADC left for the airport immediately.

“In the evening, all of us left for the airport a second time. After the passengers disembarked, we offloaded the cash bags into our bullion van and drove back to the bank to ascertain how much the cash was.

“The second tranche was N494,990,000, bringing the total about N1.219, 490,000
“We headed straight to our zonal head office where instructions were given by Agbele on how the funds were to be credited to various accounts.

“However, because of the amount involved, we needed to detail-count before crediting the accounts the next day. All these are recorded in the statements I volunteered to the EFCC.”

The four statements earlier made by the witness to the EFCC were tendered by the prosecuting counsel and admitted by the court as exhibits.

ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a female banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, and two suspected hired assassins over a botched plot to kill her husband, identified as Onyebuchi Tochukwu.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, explained that the 32-year-old banker, who is a staff of a new generation bank, allegedly masterminded the failed assassination of her estranged husband by arranging and keeping the weapons used in the attack in the husband’s compound in Ajah. The couple had been married for three years and had a daughter, before the union crashed. Iliyasu said the two suspected assassins, 32-year-old Chigozie Smart, and 36-year-old Kingsley Ikechukwu, were intercepted at Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State, while attempting to escape to Onitsha, Anambra State, with the would-be victim’s Range Rover.

The attack The police boss explained that the two suspects had attacked their victim in his compound at Agungi area of Ajah in Lagos State, last Wednesday. He was allegedly attacked with iron rods and machete before the suspects poured acid on him. But he survived the attack. According to Iliyasu,”it was the smoke and the offensive odour that came out from the suit worn by the victim, when the acid touched it, that made the suspects to quickly abandon him and went away with his Range Rover SUV, which the wife instructed them to deliver to her brother in Anambra State. “The estranged couple had been separated for a while, with the wife living with her father somewhere in Ayobo area of Lagos State. “The husband had a date with a court today (yesterday) over the custody of their only daughter. Luck, however, ran against the suspected assassins when a Police Highway Patrol team flagged the Range Rover SUV down at the Ijebu-Ode axis of Lagos-Benin expressway for a stop-and-search operation, which led to their arrest.” Fielding questions from newsmen during their parade, Oluchi denied contracting the duo of Chigozie and Kingsley and one other, who is at large, to assassinate her estranged husband. Though she acknowledged that the three year-old marriage had crashed, Oluchi told newsmen that she had no reason to kill her husband. Meanwhile, during the interrogation, Chigozie maintained that it was Oluchi that contracted them to kill Tochukwu, with a promise of purchasing tokunbo cars for each of them after a successful operation.

Odion Ighalo May Be Jailed In Spain For Bribing To Get Drivers License

Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, faces a two-year jail term having been fingered in a bribery scandal while he was playing in Spain with Granada.

Spanish publication, Marca, reports that the provincial district attorney’s office of Granada has requested a two-year prison term and a fine of 3,000 Euros for Ighalo, his ex-Granada teammate, Diego Buonanotte, and 93 others for allegedly bribing their way to pass a driving test.

According to the provisional writing of the prosecution, in 2012 and 2013 someone was hired to write the exams for Ighalo and the other accused.

After the test was written, the errors made on the sheet were deleted.
Investigation further revealed that three syndicates of Íllora (Granada), Mengíbar (Jaén) and Ciudad Real who moved to Granada allegedly recruited students to help write exams for clients who wanted to pass the driving license exams, and were charged between 1,500 and 2,500 Euros.

Following the incident, the prosecutor found the Super Eagles striker culpable of the crime of falsifying an official document.

Meanwhile, as is the practice, Ighalo may be dragged to appear in court to testify in Granada if an open trial is to be held.

Earlier in the week, another former Super Eagles World Cup star, Efetobore Sodje, and three of his brothers, Bright, 50; Samuel, 37; and Stephen, 42; were also summoned to appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court on November 16 to answer fraud charges.
