Why bank manager committed suicide – FCMB

First City Monument Bank Plc says its official, Olisa Nwakoby, who committed suicide on Friday in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Lekki, Lagos State, had personal challenges and became frustrated.

The bank, however, noted that neither the management nor colleagues of the deceased were aware of the challenges, adding that it was working with Nwakoby’s family and the police to unravel the nature of the challenges.

Forty-four-year-old Nwakoby, said to be the manager of the bank’s branch in Lekki, shot himself in the head over a bad debt estimated at N350m on Friday.

The deceased was said to have given out the sum as loan to a bank customer, who allegedly failed to service the loan.

He was reportedly under pressure from the bank’s management to repay the loan and became frustrated as he could not meet the demand.

But the Acting Group Head, Communications and Brand Management of the FCMB, Lola Egboh, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday, said the suicide had nothing to do with the bank, adding that she did not have the knowledge of any loan.

Egboh, who described Nwakoby’s death as shocking, said the bank would have come to his aid if it was aware that he had emotional challenges.

She said, “It is rather unfortunate that the incident happened. Mr. Nwakoby was a member of staff of the FCMB. We are not aware that he was facing personal challenges, which led to the incident. As a bank that caters to the well-being of its workers, we have counsellors who could have helped him. This came as a surprise to us as it was to the public. It is such a trying time for the family; we have been in touch with them. There is a lot of speculations going on at the moment, a lot of them unfounded.

“We are working closely with security operatives and his family to understand what could have led to the personal challenges. I am not aware of any loan. I can’t comment on speculations.”

Efforts to speak with the family proved abortive as of press time. But a source close to the family said, “They were too distraught to speak to the press now.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said a pistol and live cartridges were recovered from the scene, adding that Nwakoby  corpse had been deposited at the Lagos Island Hospital’s morgue.

She said, “At about 9.45am on Friday, one Olisa (Nwakoby) allegedly shot himself in the head with a pistol in front of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Northern Foresore Estate, Lekki.

“A team of policemen attached to the Ilasan division visited, examined and photographed the scene. The exhibit, a silver America pistol with five rounds of unexpended ammunition, was recovered to the station while the corpse was removed and deposited at a morgue for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.”

Cultists kill four, shoot two-year-old in Lagos community

There was pandemonium on 24 Road, in the Igbogbo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, after suspected cult members shot dead four persons.

It was learnt that the six-man gang arrived in the community on Friday around 8pm on two motorcycles.

PUNCH Metro learnt that a 63-year-old native doctor, identified as Rasheed Yusuf, aka Low Banger, who was walking along the road, was the first to be killed.

The attackers were said to have also shot at Rasheed’s wife, Falilat, and a two-year-old girl, Kehinde.

The duo, however, survived the attack.

The cultists further reportedly waylaid and shot dead two men, identified as Yusuf Cisco and Lukman Apetu, who were returning from work on a motorcycle.

A yet-to-be-identified resident was also reportedly killed during the shooting spree which left many residents injured.

Policemen from the Ikorodu division and members of a vigilance group in the area were said to have arrived at the area to remove the corpses after the attackers left.

When PUNCH Metro got to the area on Saturday, most shops and houses on Tobalase and Olubuse streets, as well as Awotunde Lane, were locked.

A crowd of sympathisers was observed at Rasheed’s house.

Our correspondent learnt that Cisco, another victim, was buried on Saturday in accordance with Islamic rites.

A relation, who did not want his name in print, said the gunmen were on a reprisal, adding that they decided to pass their aggression to residents when they didn’t meet their targets.

He said, “Baba (Rasheed), a well known native doctor in this area, was walking to his son’s shop on Tobalase Street when he heard the gunshots. He was about warning his children to lock the doors, when the gunmen shot him.

“They also shot at his wife and a little girl. We rushed the woman and the child to a public hospital where they are still receiving treatments.

“After leaving that spot, they shot at three young men returning from work. Two of them died that evening, while the third died in a hospital later. People were injured by the sporadic shooting. A man, Baba Ogo, was injured in the stomach.”

A resident, who gave his name only as Qudus, said the cultists came in from the Ebute area of Igbogbo.

He said, “The cult guys are from Ikorodu town. They came in from the Ebute area. We do not know the gang they belong to. Some Onyabo (vigilance group) members have been patrolling this area, but they are arresting innocent residents.

“When we went to bury one of the deceased today (Saturday), the gunmen still shot at someone in the cemetery.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the deaths.

She added that the police had arrested three suspects.

She said, “Three suspects have been arrested. They will soon be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja. The command is on the trail of other suspects.”

Woman Disrupts Church Service In Kenya, Claims Pastor Dumped Her For Another

Drama erupted at a church in Kariobangi South of Kenya recently when a woman stormed the service claiming that the pastor who runs the church was her husband, who had dumped her for another woman.

The jilted woman, identified as Jane Wambui, yelled and called out the man’s name as she pelted stones at believers.

God’s Greater Favour Church worshippers scampered for safety while the preacher in question took cover and hid from the woman.

Wambui claimed that they had been married for 14 years until their union hit a rocky patch earlier in year when the pastor started cheating.

She alleged that he had abdicated his duties as a father and their child had been sent away from school due to fees arrears.

“I don’t have a job since I’m a hawker and the ‘Kanjo’ took off with my stock,” Wambui lamented in a KTN report, as a large crowd of onlookers milled around the scene of drama.

It took the intervention of police to calm the woman who some members of the public had tried unsuccessfully to pacify.

The pastor surfaced from his hideout once police landed, and the two were arrested and taken to Buruburu police station for questioning.

One dead in Texas shooting

At least one person was killed and four others wounded in a shooting in Austin, Texas early Sunday, with police warning that the shooter was still at large.

The incident began shortly after 2:15am in a busy downtown area filled with bars and nightclubs, with police warning people on Twitter to steer clear of the area due to an “active shooter”.

“Active shooter incident downtown, multiple victims. Stay away from downtown,” Austin police tweeted.

One woman was killed and three other women were rushed to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, the Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services said.

A fifth victim, a man, refused aid, the ATCEMS said.

Police later confirmed there had been a second, separate shooting incident in the area, which took place just minutes later, although only the gunman was injured.

Police across the country, and especially in Texas, remain on edge after a rash of shooting incidents, including one on July 7 in Dallas which saw five officers shot dead by a black extremist as they were protecting a peaceful march against police brutality.

At the time, police initially thought they were facing multiple shooters. Instead, it turned out to be one individual armed with a rifle who was firing from different spots.

FCMB Bank Manager Olisa Nwakoby Kills Himself In front Of His Pastor In Lekki Lagos Over N350Million Debt. Mr. Olisa Nwakoby, a manager at a second generation bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc on Friday evening shot himself dead in the presence of his Priest at the Lekki area of Lagos Island, Lagos State.
The father of a 10-year- old daughter was said to have taken his own life because of an incriminating huge loan transaction he approved in his bank.

Sources close to the family told ST at the weekend that the late Olisa was the approving officer for the loan which the beneficiary is no longer servicing and the bank was on the neck of Olisa to get the money back.

His late father, Chief Patrick Oguejiofor Nwakoby was a former chairman of First Bank of Niger Plc, a successfully lawyer , politician and a highly respected community leader before his death.

Fear over his integrity and the name of his family, which could be dented if his bank commences action against him over the loan, was too much for the vibrant banker to bear prompting him to shoot himself, our source said.

Our source did not say that there was suspicion of any foul play in the death of the banker, she also could not confirm the actual amount involved in the transaction, but she simply said “it was huge.” The case is being handled by homicide detectives attached to Area J Command, Lekki/Ajah. According to a police source.

The banks, on the fateful day he killed himself, went to meet his pastor. He told the pastor to tell his wife to take good care of his children, that what he would do in next few minutes would shock everyone. He was said to have later blown his brains out.

The source continued, “It was later discovered that he took money from the bank, N350million, and the money started creating problems for him. He killed himself.”

When the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmus, was contacted, her two lines were switched off. Olisa hails from Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government of Anambra State and he attended Abia State University, where he bagged a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree, in Microbiology between 1990 and 1995.

Ribery Caution by Bayern over Remark on Guardiola

French forward Franck Ribery has been called to order by Bayern Munich over his criticism of the club’s former coach Pep Guardiola as well as his conduct on the pitch. Ribery, currently with Bayern on their pre-season tour of the United States, has described Guardiola as inexperienced and repeatedly compared him unfavourably to his successor at Bayern, Carlo Ancelotti. His comments drew a sharp response from Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “I think there is no point in having a go at Pep Guardiola now that he has gone. We won a lot with him, we gained a lot from him. Seeking vengeance now serves no purpose,” Rummenigge told Bavarian television channel BR. Ancelotti, 57, has replaced Guardiola, now with Manchester City, as Bayern coach for the 2016/17 season and Ribery, who had a tense relationship with the Spaniard, has been quick to praise the Italian. In the magazine Sport Bild, Ribery accused Guardiola of lacking experience despite winning 14 titles in four years with Barcelona and seven trophies in three years with Bayern. “He is still a young coach. He lacks experience. Sometimes he talks too much, football is very simple,” the 33-year-old Frenchman told the magazine. Ribery’s strained ties with Guardiola during his time at Bayern were no secret and he said he now feels “motivated and liberated” again on the pitch. But earlier Saturday he came under fire from Ancelotti over his conduct in his team’s 4-1 win over Inter Milan in their friendly in Charlotte, North Carolina. Ancelotti upbraided Ribery during the first half of the game, telling him to calm down after he was seen engaging in a running dispute with his Inter opposite number Felipe Melo. “I don’t like players who behave in that way. I told him that he had better put a stop to it,” Ancelotti told journalists after the match. “I made him captain today and it is just not possible to behave that way when you wear the arm

No rivalry between Frank Edwards and me –Joe Praize

Even as Frank Edwards and Joe Praize are among the top gospel artistes in the country, Joe Praize has said they are not in any form of competition.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the gospel singer said he doesn’t see Edward as a rival in any way.

“If there is any form of rivalry, I would tell you. If an artiste is doing well, you must appreciate him or her. You must also acknowledge the fact that God has given you a voice that is being heard around the world. If you throw the same question to Frank, he might answer you the way I do.

“I am not threatened or disturbed by what others do. I celebrate the grace of God upon our lives as singers. The truth is that everyone cannot be the head and everybody cannot be the leg. We are all doing the same work, but using different tools. The fans love us and I am glad for that,” he said.

Talking about how he became a gospel singer, Praize said he is first of all a Christian before a gospel singer.

“I have been a born-again Christian for over two decades and I was so fulfilled singing in the choir. I can only say God brought me into music because there was no trait of it in my family. After I got involved in music, my younger ones are now showing interest. But I try to encourage them to go school before they start talking about music.”

Even though his songs are popular, Praize admitted that many people have yet to reconcile his face with his songs.

“It is not about the face but the impact, though it is necessary to match the face with the popularity because of what we do. I receive messages from people on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram daily. Few days ago, I got a message from Haiti. I cannot be everywhere, but I am happy that my songs meet the need of people across the globe,” he said.

No matter how many people think gospel music is not as commercially viable as secular music; Praize said he is not into music because of financial gains.

“To be very honest with you, gospel music is so different from any other kinds of music. It is a calling, but it doesn’t mean we do not share the same studios with the secular acts. We also use the same platforms to promote our songs. But we have a different mindset. As a gospel singer, you are after touching lives while the other singers want to make money. But God takes care of us. He ensures that the necessary programmes come our way for us to take care of our logistics. When it comes to gospel music, you must put God first. Of course, if you work for God, God will definitely pay your bills. That is what I hold on to,” he said.

13 inmates escape in fresh Nigerian prison jailbreak at Koton Karfe prison in Kogi

Thirteen inmates escaped in a fresh jailbreak recorded at Koton Karfe prison in Kogi in the early hours of Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, gathered from a reliable source that the incident happened at about 7a.m. when the inmates forcefully brought down the wall of the prison.
The all male prison facility which was inaugurated in 2014 has the capacity to accommodate 180 inmates.
However, it was accommodating about 263 inmates as at the time of the jailbreak, Saturday.
One of the escaped inmates was re-arrested almost immediately by security agents, NAN reports.
This was the third jailbreak recorded in Koton Karfe as the old prison facility witnessed similar jailbreaks in 2010 and 2013.
In previous jailbreaks, 132 inmates escaped from the prison and majority were awaiting trials.
It was gathered that Comptroller–General of the Nigeria Prison Service immediately sent a representative to Koton Karfe to assess the situation.

The Kogi State Controller of Prison, Musa Maza, who would have shed more light on the incident, did not pick several calls made to his mobile telephone line.
Saturday’s jailbreak occurs about a month after two prisoners escaped in a jailbreak from a maximum security prison in Kuje, Niger State.

Military rains bombs on Ijaw militants in South-West

•Over 100 militants killed, many injured –Source

Fidelis Soriwei, Samson Folarin and Afeez Hanafi

No fewer than 100 people suspected to be militants have been reportedly killed as the Nigerian military on Saturday continued the aerial bombardment of Fatola, the base of militants and pipeline vandals in the Arepo area of Ogun State.

One of our correspondents who was around the scene of the incident at the time, observed that the attack started at about 12pm and lasted for about 30 minutes.

Our correspondent counted at least eight missiles fired by a fighter jet, which flew across the creek at intervals.

Another aircraft was observed hovering around the area.

Residents, who were caught unawares, ran for their lives due to the ground-shaking effects of the missiles.

Business activities were grounded and many residents fled their houses for fear of being hit by missiles.

A resident who was on the road when the shots were fired said the Saturday attack was more intense than previous air raids.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, she said, “The air raid started on Thursday evening. It was just a missile that was released, but the effect was serious. On Friday evening, another airplane which flew across the creek released gunfire which lasted for some minutes. I could hear the shots as if they were fired close at me. But the Thursday and Friday attacks were child’s play compared with that of today (Saturday).

“The aircraft releasing the missiles had three short wings with a sharp mouth. It maintained a visible presence in the sky and anytime it wanted to fire, it flew down as if it was about to crash. I never knew the military had such a weapon.”

Another resident, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that he lay flat in his apartment during the Saturday attack.

He said, “I was alone in the house with my son. The boy shook with fright every time a missile landed. I carried him and lay flat on the floor. The missiles shook the whole ground. I am not sure if I would  continue to live here because of this. My landlord left with his family yesterday.”

A source close to the millitants told SUNDAY PUNCH that the missiles levelled the base of the militants, adding that more than 100 people were killed.

He said, “The whole place has been levelled. From the information I just gathered, those killed today (Saturday) cannot be less than 100. I am aware that some of them (the militants) are presently in the waters where they are hiding. They are making calls and seeking escape routes from the place.”

Another source, who asked the military to intensify attacks on the militants, said the militants abandoned their ammunition in the creeks.

He said the men could regroup and cause greater havoc if given a breathing space.

He said, “The heat is on them. One of them said it was because of the kidnap of a monarch in Lagos (Oniba of Iba) that the missile attack was intensified.

“He said he had asked his colleagues to release the monarch, but they didn’t listen. I am aware that the monarch will be released between today and tomorrow, if he has not been killed.

“The military should deploy secret officials in Ibafo, Pakuro, Wawa and other villages. I believe those places will be their next hideouts. They must not be given any breathing space. If they are allowed to regroup, there will be serious problems.”

The acting Director of Defence Information, Brig-General Rabe Abubakar, confirmed the air strikes.

He said, “The joint operation will continue until the area is secure and free from all forms of unwanted and criminal gangs whether they are militants or vandals.”

Abubakar, told one of our correspondents on the telephone on Saturday that while he would not confirm the exact casualty figure, the knew that some of the camps of the vandals were destroyed.

He gave the assurance that the military would ensure the destruction of more camps in the ongoing operation.

He said, “No, we cannot confirm the exact casualty figure in the operation. There are so many camps, and we will continue to  destroy them in that operation.

“We have taken some camps. The casualties cannot be confirmed but I know that we were able to target some of their camps and locations.”

Meanwhile, in an attempt to forestall the spate of militants’ attacks, the Onijegun of Ijegun land in Lagos State, Oba Nureni Akinremi, on Friday convened a meeting at his palace.

Sunday PUNCH learnt that the meeting, which was attended by all the chairmen of community development associations in Ijegun, examined the solution to security challenges posed by the militants.

A source close to the palace and who also attended the meeting told one of our correspondents that the community had resolved to hire members of the Oodua People’s Congress to man strategic locations in the neighbourhood.

The source added that operational vehicles, motorcycles and walkie-talkies would be provided for the operatives to ensure effective performance.

He said, “We have agreed to engage members of the Oodua People’s Congress for the protection of the whole Ijegun against all the attacks that claimed lives in the community.  We plan to hire 70 guards who would be deployed in various strategic points in the community.

“The guards are specifically meant to checkmate militants’ attacks but they will also be working with the existing security men in each CDA. We have budgeted N5m to ensure their smooth operations and they will start by Monday.

“People have made donations and contributions are on going in each CDA. We want to buy three buses and at least 10 motorcycles to aid their operations. We have already bought walkie talkie for them to communicate with one another and they are well armed. By God’s grace, the buses will be available on Monday.

“The operatives are a registered security organisation and they have their uniform and identity cards.”

The source added, “Apart from that, we have resolved that from 12am till 5am, no okada rider will be allowed to operate in the community except there is an emergency.

“We also want to create awareness for all residents on the need to be security conscious. We are going to do this through distribution of pamphlets and announcements on radio stations. The abduction of the Oniba of Iba and attacks on communities in Lagos and Ogun states are very disturbing. That is why we are taking all these measures.”

Brother kills sisters on their wedding eve

A man killed his two sisters on the eve of their weddings in Pakistan’s central Punjab province, police said Saturday, in the latest case of so-called “honour” killings in the country. Kosar and Gulzar Bibi, aged 22 and 28, were shot dead by 35-year-old brother Nasir Hussain on Friday as they prepared to marry men they had chosen themselves, senior police officer Mehar Riaz told AFP. Hussain objected to the love matches and had wanted the women to marry someone within the extended family, he added. “The brother shot dead both the sisters yesterday and fled the site,” the officer said, adding that a search was underway. “It is a simple case of killing for honour,” he said. Father of the family Atta Mohammad told reporters that Hussain had “destroyed everything”. “He ruined my family, he destroyed us, he destroyed everything” Mohammad said. The murders came days after social media starlet Qandeel Baloch was strangled to death by her brother who said he was “not embarrassed” to have killed her, reigniting calls for action against the crime. Hundreds of women are murdered by relatives in the conservative Muslim nation each year on the pretext of defending what is seen as family honour. Pakistan’s law minister this month announced that bills aimed at tackling “honour killings” and boosting rape convictions would soon be voted on by parliament, after mounting pressure to tackle a pattern of crime that claims around 1,000 lives a year. The perpetrators of so-called honour killings — in which the victim, normally a woman, is killed by a relative — often walk free because they can seek forgiveness for the crime from another family member.

Man Grows Breasts After Sex With Neighbour's Wife (photos)

According to The Nairobian, a popular Kenyan Newspaper, a 39-year-old man, James Mutua, has suddenly developed breasts after he allegedly slept with the wife of one his neighbours.

Mutua, according to the report, began growing the breasts that have now become saggy, in 2015 after several warnings from the neighbour to desist from having affairs with his wife fell on deaf ears.

The report has it that Mutua confessed to developing sagging breasts after ignoring the warning as he is now seriously looking for a cure for his condition and is of the view that the husband of the woman he was sleeping with decided to punish him through spiritual means.

Mutua who once worked as a chef at a hotel in Westlands, told reporters that his services were terminated in early 2015, when he began developing the breasts after he started sleeping with the woman, and he began selling fruits and vegetables within Westlands to sustain his family.

On how the breasts started growing, Mutua said he felt an unusual sensation on his chest and before he knew it, his breasts became enlarge and has been growing since then, forcing him to wear a bra and over-sized jackets to hide the bulge.

He further confessed that the first time he slept with his neighbour's wife, he was drunk and was lured into the act by the woman wife who had visited him before seducing him.

After the first encounter, Mutua continued, the married woman became more aggressive and would pick him from work or even from his mother’s house for sex.

Primate Ayodele Blasts Adeboye, Oyedepo, Kumuyi Over Silence On Killings Of Christians

The Spiritual Leader of INRI Spiritual and Evangelical Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has condemned the killing of Christians cross the country.

Ayodele, in an interview with newsmen on Friday, also took a swipe at those he called “Big Pastors” for keeping quiet in the face of unabated attacks against the Church.

Ayodele, while lamenting the recent attack on Christians, said “They slit the throat of a woman preaching in Abuja; they beheaded a 74-year-old woman in Kano; they nearly killed another poor carpenter for not observing fast; they attacked a Church in the Niger for holding a service on Friday, and so on.

“Nigeria is getting to the edge; no more tolerance and we are moving on as if all is well”

“Last week, the Appeal Court ruled that hijab can be worn to schools. The Sultan came out and told Muslims that ‘if anybody does not want you to practise Islam, you can fight’.

“I read it on your DAILY POST and was shocked. I read it again.

“The fact that nobody has come out to say the Sultan did not say that means he was quoted correctly.

“Yet, I have not heard reactions from those who ought to have spoken. I am not scared of anybody, I will call names.

“People like (Enoch) Adeboye, (David) Oyedepo, (Folorunsho) Kumuyi, and other Big Pastors that people believe so much are holier than thou have kept quiet”.

Citing instances of contentious religious issues in states, Primate Ayodele said: “Imagine what is happening in Osun State. The government said female Muslims students can wear hijab to school.

“Somebody came out to say, ‘okay, Christians too should wear white garment to school’. The governor criticised him and so-called Christian leaders came out to say the governor is right.

“Also, this man in Kaduna, (Nasir) El-Rufai says you must have license to preach or do public religious activities.

“Only one man has been shouting…Apostle Suleman. He has been the lone voice fighting against the government’s pronouncement. Other influential Pastors have not uttered a word.

“Nobody is ready to bell the cat. May be they are thinking that they will lose rich members or their connections in power”.

“Christians are being killed. People who should be talking are just there looking. If these killings lead to religious war, nobody will stay. This country is playing with disaster”.

On the way forward, Primate Ayodele advocated that all hands must be on deck to forestall religious crisis.

“Even though I am still watching him, the new CAN president must take steps to put the plight of Christians at the fore front,” he charged.

“We must harmonize in this country. There must be equity and balance. We must respect each other’s religion.

“A man like me is tolerant. I have Muslims who come to my church that I assist. We should stop all these signs of extremism.

“There is an inter-religious boy in place. We should do more to ensure peace exists because that is the only way Nigeria can fully attain its potential.”

Father Rapes Daughters In Akwa Ibom Without Condoms (pic)

.......Father : I was checking if they were virgins

Two teenage sisters have revealed in chilling details, how their biological father, repeatedly raped them without using condoms.

According to the girls, Enobong, 16 and Imaobong, 13, not real names , their father, a mechanic and driver, from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, turned them into sex objects and always raped them without using condoms.

The accused man , Mr . Okon Jimmy Amah 40, father of four, allegedly had sexual intercourse with both girls at different times , especially at midnight in their home. Amah confessed to have had sex with both of his daughters. He however added that he was only attempting to check if the girls were still virgins. According to him, he continued to have sex with them, because his second wife, who lives with him, used to deny him sex.

Enobong is a Junior Secondary School (JSS3 ) student , Uyo , Akwa Ibom State. Enobong also sells recharge cards at the State Secretariat Complex, Uyo. Enobong was living with her mother in Benin, Edo State, until April 9, 2015, when she decided to visit her father in Uyo . It was after she got there , that her father turned her into his lover. She said: “My father started soliciting sex from me. In fact, that April , my father forcefully had sexual intercourse with me in our small room.

He had sex with me in the middle of the night. He has had sex with me several times. I have lost count of the number of times he had sex with me. What is making this issue explodes now , is that one day, after I returned from selling recharge cards , my father got angry that I got home late. I tried to explain to him that I had to balance my account.

He however refused to accept my explanation. He started flogging me with a fan belt. ” Enobong said her father used a motor fan belt to flog her.

The girl said that her father beating her, was nothing new, but the beating of that particular day, was too severe. The beating left a lot of bruises on Enobong’s body. It was so obvious that one of her customers, who noticed the bruises the following day, asked her what happened.

Apparently sick and tired of the life she had been subjected to, hungry for a person to share her pains, Enobong poured out her heart to the customer. The shocked customer happened to be a lawyer.

He took the matter to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Akwa Ibom State. Enobong was invited to share her horrifying experience . She also revealed that she had once told her stepmother, that her father used to have sex with her and her younger sister, Imaobong.

Recollecting her own experience , Imaobong said she was 11 year old when her father started having sex with her.

She said: “My father returned home one day and called me to a quiet place. He asked me whether I had ever had sex with a man before. I said no. He said he would be the first man to have sex with me. I was shocked . I wanted to say something, but he shouted at me to shut up.

“When it was midnight, my father raped me. I cried and felt ashamed . He raped me , not once , not twice . He raped me several times . One day , my mother heard me crying, she came to me. I told her the little I could. My mum was angry. But my father didn ’t stop having sex with me.

My mum knows about it. ” Amah is married to two wives. One lives with him , while the other does business in Benin, Edo State. Amah , who is in police custody , didn ’t deny the allegations. He however denied having sex with his daughters several times . According to him , he did it, “only once. ”

He said: “Yes, I slept with my daughters in the bedroom room, while my wife was sleeping in the sitting room. My wife was ill with malaria. She had been ill for a week . Sometimes , my wife used to deny me sex. That was why I solicited sex from my daughters. ” According to him , aside from his wife sexually starving him, he suspected that his daughter, Imaobong, wasn’t a virgin. He needed to confirm.

His words: “ I suspected that Imaobong has had sex with a man. But when I inserted my manhood into her vagina, I discovered that she had never had sex. At that point, I immediately removed my manhood from her vagina. ” As if carrying out the ‘manhood test’ on Imaobong wasn’t enough, Amah, also decided to verify Enobong’s virginity. He said: “In the case of Enobong, I also intended to find out if she has had sexual intercourse with any man.

When I inserted my manhood into her vagina, I discovered that no man has had sex with her. I immediately removed my manhood. ” Amah further admitted to using motor fan belt to beat Enobong, after having sex with her. He said: “It’ s true I flogged my daughter with a car fan belt, after which I dumped it in my pit toilet. ”
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare invited the police. The girls’ father was arrested and charged to court.

He was arraigned on three - count charge of incest, carnal knowledge and assault, contrary to Section 242 and 364 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Akwa Ibom State. When the matter, with suit number HU/65 C/2016, came up before Justice Okon Okon of the State High Court in Uyo, on July 14, 2016, there was no witness to testify against the accused person.

The Defence Counsel, Barrister Harrison Ernest, raised an objection. He argued that the matter should be struck out, for lack of diligent prosecution, since there was no witness in the case.

The court ruled that by the next adjourned date, if the Prosecution Counsel, Barrister Mary Icoba, couldn’t produce witnesses, the court would have no option, than to strike out the case against the accused person.
